I’ve recently stumbled upon the Lincoln coupe of the 90s. It’s grabbed my attention with the swooping interior and standard 4.6. Are there any big concerns with the air suspension or other troublesome nannies to look for? This seems like an American 6 series to barn storm 95.

I’d go here first:

Check out this thread . A lot of the items are relevant to the Mark VIII. I’ve heard of Lincolns having air suspension troubles, but I’m afraid I never paid much attention since my car was a Thunderbird.
The thread isn’t comprehensive, but it’s a start.

Thank you. Time to start the research.

Thank you for the resource. Do you have any personal opinion on them?

It has a lot of potential

The intech 4.6 is a solid engine, and you’ll hear no complaints from me intersession to Ford’s 4.6. I’ve heard the air ride can go bad suddenly and it’s expensive to replace with OEM. There is a facebook group that I’m in that has Lincoln MKVIII bits for sale sometimes too. MN12 FN10 trading post. The mods usually add people within a few hours.

The main goal would be keep the air ride in some form, OEM or aftermarket. Whichever will have more peace of mind and longevity. I just joined the group and hope for cheap and efficienct ideas.

Dads went 200k + miles before he sold it. Still going. Ditched the air suspension for a more conventional coil over conversion and replaced the fuel pump. And installed a radio. Water pump, alternator. That’s about it.

I don’t know where you live but I’ve heard it gets difficult to ship air suspension parts over seas from the states, just a heads up.

My dad bought one new when I was in high school and drove it for about 10 years. The only atypical behavior was a finicky transmission when it got close to 100,000. It would shift really hard sometimes. Like, lay rubber on the 1st-to-2nd upshift. It didn’t do that all the time, just occasionally.
Overall, the car was fantastic. It sounded good, rode really well, handled well, and was damn quick! I drove a 2017 Lincoln Continental Black Label a couple months ago and am certain the Mark 8 had a better ride. Sounded better, too.

I had assumed the transmission started in second gear.

The last two I saw were laying frame. So, airbags?

A lot of Mercedes used to start in 2nd, but I’m pretty sure this one started in 1st. Maybe not... maybe that was the problem! It’s been close to 15 years since I drove it, so my memory may be compromised!
I do clearly remember the great ride and the great engine tone, though. I know a lot of magazines back in the day complained that the engine “grumbled” a lot more than the ETC and SC400, but I think most of us like it that way.
